People on both sides of the border told me, "The guns are quiet - now the war is taking place in my mind." They are suffering from what in the western world is called Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). North Sudan had supported the LRA rebels in northern Uganda in return for LRA participation in fighting the south Sudanese population. Decades of warfare and the influx of firearms are fueling cycles of violence in the cross-border region of northern Uganda, southern South Sudan, and western Kenya. In many of the areas I visited seventy percent of the women are widowed.
